Day 35: Help Get Us To FT Benning

Help Get Us To Fort Benning – February 15, 2011

Day 35 - Help Get Us To FT Benning

Have ‘Pawsport’ Will Travel!

How’s that old saying go – “Fort Benning or Bust” – Well, actually it’s not always “Fort Benning” but it’s always whatever the destination is “or bust”. We received word about Ben’s graduation and are now in the midst of making plans to get there. As you can see General Sarge is all set to go now!

He has his official Build-A-Bear “Pawsport” and he even jumped into his Army backpack travel bag too.

Living in Upstate New York means driving to Fort Benning, Georgia is out of the question. I actually did a Mapblast and the travel time was quite long. So, we’re now looking into flights, car rentals, motels and other travel arrangements needing attention. Ben has already asked when we will arrive for graduation as he’s quite excited about it and so are we. There are actually two ceremonies. The first is the Turning Blue ceremony held on Thursday, April 28 and then graduation is on Friday, April 29. Our plan is to fly out on April 27, and then return on April 30.

When we talked with Ben on the phone recently we also found out after graduation he can actually leave the base! We thought he was there until mid-May. But, it turns out he has two weeks leave before he then has to report to his assignment at whatever Fort that might be. That means when we head back from Fort Benning on Saturday, April 30, Ben will be heading back with us for a couple weeks too.

Will You Help With A Donation?

Over the weekend we’ve been working on travel plans and this week we’ve been talking with a travel agent. The agent found some really good deals on flights, but even still, flying is expensive these days. In all, the total travel expenses for flight, rental car and accommodation will be approximately $1500. Of course that’s if we get the flights booked this week. As you know the longer you wait to book a flight, the more expensive it gets as the date gets closer. So we really need to get the flight booked as soon as possible.

We do appreciate the support and the kind words from all who read this blog and keep up with the daily adventures of General Sarge. The emails of support are incredible and honestly, we are speechless at times. Ben is excited about all that’s going with General Sarge too!

So now we’re asking our faithful readers and military supporters to help get us to Fort Benning for Ben’s graduation. We have set up a PayPal for our ministry – Fresh-Wind Ministries. That means your donation to help get us to graduation will be tax deductible and we will send you a receipt for your income tax returns at the end of this year. In order to make the donation process simple, all you need to do is click the “Donate” button below.

This will open a form where you can put in your information and the amount of your donation. Please note your donation will be listed on your credit card as Fresh-Wind.

These are exciting days for us. We are proud of Ben and do so want to be at Fort Benning for his graduation at the end of April. But, without your help, we won’t be able to afford to make it.

Thank you in advance for your help and donations to help get us and General Sarge to Ben’s graduation.

  1. Dr. Rus,

When I graduated Marine Corps bootcamp none of my family was able to make the trip, it truly is a financial burden to many. I wonder just how effective we could be at raising funds with Devil Dog Brew, like Girl Scout Cookies, I bet lots of folks would buy the brew knowing that a portion of the proceeds would go to help you with your trip. I’ll see how quickly I can generate a promotional campaign.
