Master Sarge Receives His Official Pin!

We are learning a lot about the different rank structure within the Army. A new recruit is given the rank of E1. It’s pretty much the entry level for everyone. However, that does not necessarily mean when the new recruit heads off for boot camp everyone is an E1. There are ways to rank up. A “Future Soldier“, which is what they’re called until they actually head off to Basic Training, can rank up to an E3 if they work really hard.

For Ben, he ranked up to an E2 before he left for Fort Benning. He ranked up because his brother Ryan enlisted. That’s one way to rank up before the recruit ships out. Another way is to complete a series of tests on a computer and also pass a physical training test.

All in all though, it is hard work and ranking up is very important in the Army. So, when Master Sarge was born it became very important to make sure he had the right insignia on his Beret. As a Master Sarge he’s an E8 and today his pin arrived and General Sarge was more than happy to make the presentation and pin it on his Beret.

A Fuzzy – Also Known As An E1

Ryan was at a slight disadvantage when he enlisted. Ben was signed up as a Future Soldier for a little more than six months before he shipped out to Fort Benning. However, Ryan on the other hand, shipped out to Fort Jackson about 3 months after he joined the Army. As a result, he didn’t have a lot of time to rank up. So, he went off to Fort Jackson as a “Fuzzy”. Again, we’re learning all the terms here. Ryan is actually an E1, but E1’s don’t receive any kind of insignia. As an E2 Ben has what’s called one mosquito wing on his Velcro. But Ryan, as an E1 has nothing on his Velcro, hence the name fuzzy because as we all know, Velcro is fuzzy. But, as Ryan works hard at Fort Jackson, we are confident he will rank up quickly.

As for the daily picture today, let’s just say Master Sarge, Ryan’s Build-A-Bear, is thrilled that he now proudly displays the Master Sergeant, E8 pin.

Please Help Us Get To Ben’s Graduation

Don’t forget you can support us by buying a “General Sarge’s Family First Campaign” coffee package. All the proceeds from the sales of this coffee package, which contains five 1.5 oz packages of Devil Dog Brew flavored coffee and a signed General Sarge 4×6 picture go towards helping off-set travel costs to Ben’s graduation at the end of April.

Buy the General Sarge Families First Campaign Coffee Here

Also please note, all of the proceeds from the sale of the “Families First Campaign” will always go to support military families off-set their expenses for graduation travel. It’s important that families attend the graduation ceremonies. But many times they can’t afford to go because of the expense.

So help out General Sarge in this worthy cause.

If you’d like to support financially in other ways, please feel free to contact me via email and we can talk about that too.

    1. Hey Slappy!
Have no fear Master Sarge will keep his pin polished and clean. He lives in the same house as me and I call for surprise inspections so everything needs to be shiny and clean!

  1. Congratulations to Master Sarge on his E8 pin, I am sure PVT Ryan will rank up very soon as well. PVT Ben worked very hard before he left for basics and he must have been very proud to be an E2 going into his training.

Both recruits are doing very well and we are very proud of them and support your cause. I have been spreading the word to my followers and to all that slow down long enough for me to talk with. Best wishes to both boys in their journey and to both Master and General Sarge on their quest to support the families of the military enlistees.

    1. Thanks Janet! The last time we spoke with PVT Ben he said he’s actually hoping to rank up to an E4 by the end of Basic. He’s working hard and doing well. He classified as an “Expert” shooter hitting 34 out of 40 targets on his first test! Now he’s working on the physical training aspect of basic and will pass that too very soon!

    1. That’s a very good point and I didn’t even think of that! We got a letter from Ryan today. I’ll have to send him a copy of your comment here. Very funny!

    2. Hey Shari!
You bring up a very good point and I will be sure to pass your message along to Master Sarge at our next briefing. I’m sure there will be some extra push ups.
