Day 200: Military Child of the Week Salute

Military Child of the Week Salute – October 10, 2011

Every week we like to salute a military child of the week. Being a military child brings with it a number of unique challenges. Having a parent away on deployments. These days it can be numerous deployments. Moving from base to base and sometimes from country to country. Making friends – long lasting friends – can be a challenge for military children.

Day 200 - Military Child of the Week

That’s one of the main reasons we like to salute a military child every week here at General Sarge HQ. Military children often get lost in the shuffle of what’s going on in the adult world. But we know military kids are special.

This week we didn’t have a nomination so General Sarge decided he wanted to dress up in one of his human-owners uniforms he left here. As you can see it doesn’t quite fit. But we all know how kids like to dress up in their parents clothes. For military children, dressing up in a uniform that they’re parent left behind brings a sense of comfort too. It’s a way of staying close to the parent while they’re deployed.

Military Child’s Creed

The Military Child’s Creed – Inspired by the US Army Soldier’s Creed – Leanne from Military Avenue

I am an American Military Child.

I am a Warrior in my own right and a member of a Military Family. I serve with my Military Parent, who serves the people of the United States.

I will always place the mission first: To stand beside, behind and with my Family.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will not leave a fellow military-brat hurting. I will stand beside them.

I am disciplined, but young; physically and mentally tough, but vulnerable. I will ask for help when I need it!

I am adaptable and I am resilient.

I stand ready to say “Good-bye”, whisper “I miss You” and shout “Welcome Home”.

I am a representative of the American Military Family and the American way of life.

I am an American Military Child.

  1. I am fortunate that my father left the military while I was still very young. I was spared much of that moving around except when I was too young to remember. Thanks for supporting not only the soldiers, but also their children.
