Day 42: Ryan Heading To Fort Jackson

Ryan Heading To Fort Jackson – February 22, 2011

Day 42 - Ryan Heading To Fort Jackson

It was another somewhat emotional roller coaster type day today as Ryan shipped out for his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Actually, he will spend 10 weeks at Fort Jackson and then 15 weeks in Aberdeen, Maryland. So, while Ben returns in April, we won’t see Ryan again until August.

Of course General Sarge had to go along to the airport for the send off as well. I’m not sure if he thought he was going too or not. You might have noticed General Sarge is all packed up in his Army travel bag as he poses with Ryan in front of the ticket counter. We also have to say thanks to all the recruiters at the Newark, New York Recruiting Station. They’ve all been very supportive and I’m sure will continue to be supportive too. It’s also great that airport security allows Army families special passes so we can actually go all the way to the gate to see our kids off before they fly out.

Ryan - Shipping To Basic

Just before Ryan boarded the plane we of course had to pose for a picture with him too. It’s hard to believe that we now have an empty household with our oldest son Zack living in Idaho and now both Ryan and Ben off to the Army.

  1. That is great about the passes to allow you to go all the way to the gate. I didn’t know they did that! We’ll say a prayer for all of you 🙂

    1. I’ve spoken with other parents from other branches of the military and apparently it’s only the Army that they allow family to go to gate with. It is truly a blessing. Thanks for your prayers.
