Off To Fort Lewis, WA – May 17, 2011
It’s been a full day here at General Sarge HQ. Today was shipping out day for Ben as he is now stationed at Fort Lewis, WA with the 2nd Infantry Division. We were up early and off to the Rochester, NY airport to see him off as Fort Lewis becomes Ben’s home for the next three years.
As Ben checked in, General Sarge was in charge of looking after his garment bag. This of course was a very important job as it has Ben’s dress uniform in it. As you can see from the picture General Sarge is taking his job very seriously making sure the garment bag is safe. Also take note that it’s not just any ordinary garment bag. It also proudly displays the crossed rifles and infantry insignia.
Once we cleared security and arrived at the gate General Sarge new he had to have a picture of just himself and his human owner PV2 Ben to share with everyone here! It was also early as Ben’s flight left at 8:15am. That meant we were up and out of the house around 5:00am. Ben does look a little tired here and we’re pretty sure he slept on the plane.
A Family Picture
As we waited for the plane to board a very nice young lady noticed us taking pictures. She saw us taking various individual shots but also noticed Ryan was doing a lot of the picture taking. She was kind enough to come over and ask if we would like a family picture. We said sure!
It’s always amazing and humbling at how people appreciate not only those in the military, but also military families as well. So, to whatever your name was that took this picture – Thanks so much for making sure we have this memory of Ben shipping off to Fort Lewis. We do appreciate it!
Last, but certainly not least, after Ben boarded the plane, General Sarge, along with the rest of us, watched as it pulled away from the gate.
We are very proud of Ben. As he is now on the other side of the country at Fort Lewis, we will remain strong here at General Sarge HQ bringing daily pictures and encouraging other military families.

Good luck Ben, and God bless!
My thoughts are with Ben on his journey and with everyone else 😉
Thanks Karen! Let yet another roller-coaster ride begin. Basic Training was one thing as we knew he’d be done in 3 months. But now this is a 3 year post to Fort Lewis.
Best wishes to Ben in this next phase of his journey, this is where he will really get involved in his assigned task to learn all he can about his duties. Ben will do a wonderful job and will adjust to his new surrounding well I am sure so General Sarge shouldn’t worry to much as all will be well.
God Bless, Ben. What a great family photo!
