Day 118: Ready For Memorial Day Weekend

Ready For Memorial Day Weekend – May 28, 2011

This is what many consider the weekend when summer officially begins. Memorial Day Weekend has arrived. The first long weekend where we actually have nice weather. But, in the midst of the long weekend, lets not forget what this weekend is all about.

As you can see General Sarge and Master Sarge are all set to celebrate this Memorial Day Weekend as they’ve gathered pretty much every flag we have around the house! Since it’s a big celebration for military people General Sarge decided Master Sarge needed to pose for the pic of the day too.

While many people might be camping and others no doubt have bar-b-cues planned, Senator Michael Nozzolio from New York State, a major advocate for our military and veterans reminds us of what this weekend is all about;

“Memorial Day is a powerful reminder that the freedom we enjoy as Americans is not free, but paid for with courage, valor and sadly, the lives of thousands of our fellow Americans. On Memorial Day we remember those heroes who never returned and are grateful for those that did”.

New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio
54th Senate District

What Are You Doing This Weekend?

This leads to the next question from General Sarge HQ – What will you be doing to celebrate not only the long weekend, but our military on this Memorial Day Weekend? General Sarge, myself and all our readers here want to know how you will spend the weekend.

Please leave a comment and let us know what you’re doing to celebrate this wonderful weekend.

If you’re in the Rochester, New York area don’t forget the Trot with Troops event coming up on Sunday, May 29. You can find out more information about this event sponsored by Operation Patriot Foundation in the post from yesterday – Day 117: Trot With Troops.

  1. I’ll be watching the races, of course. But beyond that, I’d like to find an American Flag to put on the house. You know, one of those that goes in the mounts? I don’t think this house has a flag mount, but I’ll have to go searching for one just in case.

    1. Hey Trisha;

      I’ll be watching the races here too. However, I’ll be watching by myself as Sandra is working both today and tomorrow. However, we are both off on Monday. So we’ll relax. As for your flag – Yes! – That sounds like a wonderful plan. I’m sure you can find the whole set up at a Wal-Mart or some other store like that.

      Hope you’re getting settled into your new house!

  2. I’m working all weekend, but I am going to try and get to the Trot With Troops tomorrow. It sounds like a fun time.

    So what does General Sarge and Dr. Rus and family have planned for the Memorial Day with all of those flags? 🙂

    1. Hi Tracy!

      The Trot for Troops sounds great! We might make it there too. Not totally sure yet as my human-owners Mom is working all weekend too. I do know Dr. Rus and I have “racing” in our future for Sunday afternoon. Nothing like watching the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600 on a Memorial Day Weekend. Those race guys are always very patriotic too.

      Two paws up!

  3. This Memorial Day i’m going to be tweeting with all my friends, bragging about our Military, telling the world they are the Greatest, and how lucky and blessed we should feel, for having them protect us, and how everybody needs to buck up and do at least one thing to show their appreciation !!! Yup, 24 hours of total bragging and honoring !!! 🙂

    PS Have a safe and blessed Memorial Day Sir !!!

    1. This sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate Memorial Day! I’ll be watching for your tweets and might even jump into the mix from time to time too!

      Have a great weekend!

  4. We will try to get together with family this weekend as it is the anniversary of my father’s death, 20 years. He was buried on Memorial day to a veterans bugle and gun ceremony, in his youth he participated in the Korean war.

    1. Hi Janet;

      Wow, I didn’t know your Dad served in the Korean War. Happy Memorial Day and may you have fond memories and thoughts of your Dad.

      Have a great day.
