Day 130: Flag Day and Army’s Birthday

A Big Day At General Sarge HQ – June 14, 2011

What a big day around here today. Not only is it Flag Day but today is also the Army’s birthday. On this day in 1775, 236 years ago, the Army was founded.

General Sarge really wanted to do things up right on this day for a picture. As you can see not only is he celebrating Flag Day but we’re also showing our support for PV2 Ben as well.

General Sarge, as well as myself and my wife, are very proud of Ben and all he’s doing for the country. We pulled down the sign we proudly display in our window for this picture. General Sarge also thought it was very appropriate to put a picture of Ben from his graduation in this picture too. It’s one of his favorite ones as it’s a picture of him and his human-owner PV2 Ben at graduation from Fort Benning, GA.

Pledge Allegiance To The Flag

There are of course many ways to celebrate Flag Day. A number of people are flying flags at their homes today and still others are wearing a flag pin. As a kid I remember watching Red Skelton every week. It was a weekly tradition of arriving home from Boy Scouts, getting ready for bed and watching some of Red Skelton on TV. One of the most memorable skits from the Red Skelton Show revolves around his reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Today is also YouTube Tuesday and it seemed very appropriate to use this YouTube video to celebrate Flag Day.

    1. You are right Slappy. That is a long time. I read somewhere that the Army was working on having a piece of birthday cake for every single person in the Army. I wonder if they did that. It would be a big cake with a lot of candles on it.
