Day 143: A New Friend

A New Friend – July 10, 2011

Moving always brings challenges. Of course a big challenge is being the new kid in town and trying to make friends. In recent years the Army made a decision to station active duty military for three years. That way, while they still move around, when it comes to families, the moves hopefully aren’t as traumatic.

Ben reported for active duty at Fort Lewis in mid-May. He told us the other day he is now settling in and actually starting to set up his room so it’s a little more like home. “After all”, said Ben, “this will be home for the next three years”. Making new friends is very important as it helps make the time go by easier.

It seems only fitting that as Ben is making new friends at Fort Lewis, it’s also time for General Sarge to make a few new friends too! He made such a friend this weekend. Here he is hanging out with “Angel-Bear”. They had all kinds of fun together over the weekend as the two were introduced by Ben’s Nanna – my Mom – who was in town visiting this weekend. My Mom collects angels and when she saw this bear, she just had to have it.

General Sarge and Angel-Bear had a great time and now they look forward to visiting one another when we travel to Canada to see Mom and Dad.

  1. Wonderful news that Ben has settled into his new 3 year home and making new friends. How nice that General Sarge also has a nice new friend to help pass the time. Angel Bear looks to be very lovely and I love her checked foot pads..

    1. Hi Janet;

      We are all very pleased that Ben is settling in. We are also now counting down the days until we see him at Christmas. Which will also be just before he deploys. Oh the emotional roller coaster ride we are on.

      Two paws up!
