Military Child of the Week Salute
October 3, 2011
It’s the start of a brand new work week! That always makes for an exciting time here at General Sarge HQ as it means it’s also time for our our Military Child of the Week Salute!
Please let your military friends know about this salute and be sure to make nominations! The name of the child goes into a year end draw for an opportunity to win their very own General Sarge Military Build-A-Bear through the Gift-A-Bear Campaign.
Last week we received an exciting phone call from PV2 Ben.
Of course anytime we hear from General Sarge’s human-owner is always a great time. It’s even better when we have time for a video-call too! Those are especially fun since we can see Ben and he can see us. General Sarge loves seeing his human-owner and bringing him up to date on what’s going on around HQ.
The last video-call with PV2 Ben, General Sarge gave him a tour of HQ showing him all the bears ready for deployment and other things we’ve gathered as we move forward here encouraging military families “one furry friend at a time”.
Last week PV2 Ben had a favor to ask too. He wanted to know if we could deploy a bear to one of his buddies in his unit at Fort Lewis. Well of course we can! After all, we can’t say no to General Sarge’s human-owner can we.
Today we’re saluting a child that’s the son of a fellow soldier of Ben’s in the Infantry.
Please say hello to Nolan Dwight Riley. Nolan was born in Georgia in February of this year at Gordon Hospital. His father, PV2 Dwight Riley joined the Army to receive training as an 11B and to also earn college benefits. PV2 Riley, along with his wife Amy and their son Nolan all moved to Washington for PV2 Riley to report to his first duty station, Fort Lewis. They made the move to Fort Lewis after PV2 Riley completed OSUT in Fort Benning, Georgia earlier this year.
PV2 Riley, thanks for your service in the Army and we are honored to salute your son Nolan today as our General Sarge Military Child of the Week.
Staying Army Strong!
