About The Book
Many Spirit-filled believers, even those intimately familiar with Scripture, sometimes struggle to express theology in clear terms. Charles Carrin, can help. In this one-volume reference, he explores the core areas of theology – including the Bible, God, creation, sin, salvation, church, last things – from a Spirit-empowered viewpoint. He also addresses key topics for charismatic and Pentecostal believers, including;
- Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
- Functions of the spiritual gifts, including the controversial gift of tongues, healing and deliverance ministry.
- Angels, demons and the supernatural miracles of God.
- God’s plan for Israel.
This book will help you grow in understanding about what you believe – and confidence about why.
Title: Spirit-Empowered Theology
Author: Charles Carrin
Publication Date: March 2017
It’s not often you can pick up what many would call an academic book and then recommend it for the masses. But, that’s exactly what I can do with this latest book by Dr. Charles Carrin, Spirit-Empowered Theology. I wasn’t sure at first what to expect from this book by Charles Carrin. After all his own biography says he’s an “evangelist and writer who was taught as a young pastor to deny the miraculous works of the Holy Spirit”. He also comes from a Presbyterian background, once again making me wonder just how “spirit-empowered” can this mans writing really be. But in the words of the old time broadcaster Paul Harvey – “And now the rest of the story”. There is more than meets the eye that makes Dr. Carrin tick.
His bio concludes, “In his more mature years, he came to accept the full message of the New Testament and experienced a powerful baptism with the Spirit”. This changed the course of of his ministry and changed his thinking in many areas.
Spirit-Empowered Theology is truly amazing. I would best describe this book as “The articles of faith and religion, on Holy Spirit steroids”.
Organized in an easy-to-read format, the index reads like the articles of faith and religion from any church movement or denomination. With headings such as;
- Who Is God?
- Who Are We?
- What Is The Bible?
- What Is The Significance of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection?
the reader quickly discovers the systematic theology style feel to the writing. However, the book goes beyond just mere theology. Moving past the issues of basic belief, Carrin then outlines areas such as;
- Doctrinal Variations
- Doctrinal Heresies
- Significant Christian Events
- Significant People in Church History
This is much more than just a textbook for the scholar. This is a textbook for every believer. While this is not a sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat type book, Spirit-Empower Theology is a great reference book for both the young believer and older believer. Carrin does a wonderful job of taking the simplicity of faith, and then sprinkling in just enough Holy Spirit to make faith come alive.
One of the most impressive aspects of this book revolves around the fact that Carrin is not out to prove anything. At no time does he take shots at what some would call the dry denominational standpoint on the Holy Spirit. Nor does he elevate his spirit-empowered belief to some kind of better or more enlightened belief system. He simply sets out to put forth exactly what the title of the book says – a Spirit-Empowered Theology.
Through the years I’ve studied and crossed many Christian belief streams. As a result, you can probably imagine that I have also amassed a rather large library. Seldom will I say – “This is a must have book” – simply because it’s hard to find all the answers in just one book. (Unless it’s the Bible of course). But in the end, I would say Spirit-Empowered Theology by Charles Carrin is a must have book for every believer.
Enjoy the read!
