June 7, 2018 marks another Election Day in Ontario, Canada. Pray On is an organization dedicated to not only praying for the upcoming Provincial election, but also dedicated to praying for governmental leaders once they are in office. The mission of this non-partisian group is to inform and inspire people to pray for the province powerfully and effectively. Pray Ontario is a prayer ministry of Leading Influence, a Christian charity providing pastoral care and chaplaincy services to elected officials across Canada since 2006. The vision of Leading Influence is to support and serve the men and women who serve our provinces and nation politically.
I am not one to jump on political bandwagons. The Lord made that clear to me in the year 2000 after the results of the Presidential election in the United States between President George W. Bush and Al Gore. Following the results declaring President Bush as victor God clearly said, “Once again My people have voted my will, instead of Thy will. I am not a respecter of political parties”. During the most recent Federal Election in Canada, the Lord dropped a similar word into my spirit about a year prior to the election. He once again said, “Beware of the political spirit about to be released across the nation. I am not a respecter of parties”. All too often as believers we tend to pray party politics, instead of God politics. God’s view is very different from our view. As a matter of fact, God’s view is one of praying not only for those in leadership, but also praying for the prosperity of the nation.
“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you to will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7).
It’s worth noting the nation of Israel found themselves in exile in Babylon when this word came from Jeremiah. I’m sure they were not pleased with their surroundings, living in the midst of Babylon and the ungodly. But God reminded them – and reminds us today – of what’s important. In the midst of exile, no matter what our view is of the current political climate or those holding office, we are to “pray for the prosperity of the nation, so we too will prosper”.
This past Sunday, May 27, 2018 during a Pray On gathering focusing on the upcoming Provincial elections I sensed the following;
The Lord would say, “As you pray this night for the upcoming election asking for My men and women to move into office, know that I am also preparing a new and amazing thing in the hearts of those who do not yet know Me who are in office, or heading to office. For I will not only multiply those who believe in Me through votes, but I will also turn the hearts of those already in office toward Me.”
I believe the Lord is saying, “I plan to visit the Ontario government in a powerful way in the days ahead.”
Praying for not only the prosperity of the nation, but also for the prosperity of Ontario!
