Looking Out My Window: Prophetic Pondering’s – Overwhelmed

What does the word overwhelmed mean to you? We toss the word around freely and sometimes casually. But when was the last time you were truly overwhelmed? I believe this is a very important question, especially when it comes to spiritual things. Ezekiel’s call as a watchman to the nation was very dramatic. When looking at the opening chapters of Ezekiel we actually discover two distinct calls. I wrote about one last week in the article Pop-Off Prophetic.

Now let’s consider another call which left him overwhelmed…

Lifted Up By The Spirit

Following a number of dramatic experiences in the first three chapters of Ezekiel we read;

“The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I went in bitterness and turmoil, but the Lord’s hold on me was strong. Then I came to the colony of Judean exiles in Tel-abib beside the Kebar River. I was overwhelmed and sat among them for seven days” (Ezekiel 3:14-15).

An overwhelming experience does more than just touch us. An overwhelming experience should mark us for life. Ezekiel has what I call Five Kebar River Moments;

  • First Experience – Ezekiel 1:1-3
  • Call as a Prophet – Ezekiel 3:15
  • Set as a Watchman – Ezekiel 3:23
  • In the Midst of Trial – Ezekiel 10:15, 20, 22
  • The Glory of the Lord Returns – Ezekiel 43:3

The Kebar River experience overwhelmed Ezekiel. It also became an experience marking him for life. He was so marked by the presence of God he references it five times! The name Kebar comes from the Hebrew word meaning “to be great”. It also expresses an awe-inspiring muchness; greatness of abundance; and greatness of size or greatness of degree.

The Weightiness of His Word

About a year ago I sensed the Lord saying as a prophetic people we need to understand the weightiness of His Word. All too often we treat it nonchalantly. At times prophetic words are seen merely as window dressing.

Now more than ever I sense the Lord saying He is “preparing to release new levels of reverence for His Word.”

In the midst of new levels of reverence, I also hear the Lord saying, “I am searching for a people who will go beyond simply hearing, listening and understanding My Word. I am searching for a people who understand the weightiness of My Words and are overwhelmed by My presence in the midst of the Word.”

Keep encouraged!
