Lessons From The Road Runner

As a child, Saturday mornings were the best! Mom and Dad slept in, and it was time for a bowl of Lucky Charms and Saturday morning cartoons. If Mom and Dad slept in real late, maybe I could even sneak a second bowl of Lucky Charms! As for cartoons, the list was endless. But my favorite were the Looney Tunes. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester and Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn and of course The Road Runner.

The Schemes of Wile E. Coyote

Why am I writing about Wile E. Coyote? Because Psalm 7 reminded me of him today. He could never catch the Road Runner. No matter how hard he tried, no matter how much he schemed, Wile E. Coyote never succeeded. It seemed the Road Runner had a secret protector keeping him safe from all evil.

“The wicked conceive evil… they dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads” (Psalm 7:14-16).

When we stay focused on God during our journey, we are able to praise Him and sing His praises for His protection. The Road Runner never left the paved road. When we stay on God’s paved road, we are in turn protected from the schemes of the devil.
